Q. How are you feeling after securing All India 2nd rank in coveted IFS? How you celebrate the success? What was your first reaction after knowing about your success?
A. I am feeling good.When i was informed  firstly i could not believe that i have secured second rank.

Q. What are the elements required for success?
A. Proper guidance,support,hard and continuous faith in yourself.

Q.When did you start the preparation for the IFS Examination? When should one ideally begin thinking about preparing for this exam?
A.I started after completing my post graduation programme. But during graduation one should start thinking about this.


Q. What was the key element of your strategy?
A. I tried to cover each topic mentioned in syllabus and gave more hours for revising all the things.


Q. What were your optional subjects? What was the basis of selecting these optionals?
A. Zoology and Botany. I studied both subjects at graduation level.


Q. How did you prepare optional subjects?
A. I took help from my supervisor in preparing optional subjects and most of the time i tried to refer text books.


Q. What was your plan for General Studies? What was your plan for English?
A. For GS i joined coaching institute and English i had studied at intermediate level,that helped me.


Q. What was your style of writing in the exam? How was it distinct from the general writing style? How did you develop this writing style?
A. I tried to include many things related to that question in my all answers.My supervisor helped me in this.


Q. What was your biggest mistake in earlier attempts?
A. Last year i did not take interview seriously.


Q. What was your strategy for Interview? How you prepared yourself?
A. I joined coaching and followed their directions. Also revised the syllabus.


Q. What you think about coaching for Interview?
A. I will say this is one of the thing one must go for. I also joined Career Quest for interview and i will always be thankful to Sanjeev Kabeer sir his guidance.


Q. How was your Interview? Which questions board asked to you?
A. My interview had gone really well. I was asked questions based on forest policies,forest acts,poaching,corruption,application of my field in forests etc.


Q. What is your opinion about changes in IFS exam from year 2013?
A.This is really  very surprising change but for all candidates it has happened.So everyone should take this in a positive way .This is just a way to eliminate nonserious candidates.


Q. What determines success in this exam?
A.If you have proper guidance while studying and after your failure there are persons to encourage you then anyone can get success in this exam apart from your hard and continuous work.


Q. Often students count their labour and strategies in terms of hours they spend on reading. Does it work?
A. Hours of studying do not matter for understanding things but for revision more hours are needed.


Q.Did you prepare notes? How helpful are the notes? What is your advice on notes-making?
A.No,notes are helpful to a certain extent.I always referred text books because this makes you different from others.You can make your notes and can take help from other notes while studying because you will find something different in different notes.


Q. Exam process is quite strenuous. It requires long hours of constant study. How did you maintain your tempo and what did you do to break the monotony of preparation?
A.This became possible due to proper guidance. For this i would like to thank my supervisor Dr.Brijesh Pandey who always encouraged me.


Q.What is your advice to the freshers who are going to appear in IFS exam?
A.This time (2013) as  prelims has been included in selection process so i would say just focus on prelim now.There will be sufficient time to study optional subjects after prelim. In fact make your own strategy for your success. Believe in it and work hard. Do not take any step of the exam lightly. Every step is equally important.


Q.Had you thought of another alternative apart from the IFS?
A.I had decided for this service very late. I am pursuing Ph.D so i had career in academics also. But after starting preparation for this i always thought about this service.


Q. Any other thing or incident you want to share with others?
A.Yes,i was very much confident for my selection in written part but for interview i was very nervous.When i joined Career Quest Institute in Delhi for interview i do not know how but i became confident for interview also.


Q.Whom would you credit your success?
A.My grandparents,parents,my uncle Dr.V.K.Gupta,brothers,friends,my supervisors Dr.Brijesh Pandey,Dr.R.K Tiwari,Dr.Neelam Pathak,Dr.Manjhari jauhri,Rao institute and Sanjeev Kabeer sir who really guided me well for interview.

Q.What will be your priority in your service?
A.Firstly i would like to learn the things in my department and then i will focus on conservation of nature and natural resources.
